The challenge
Driven by environmental regulations in the EU thermal treatment of waste is becoming increasingly important. Thus, the need for capacity has increased significantly.
The need for more
In Europe, natural gas is currently the key for the reduction of greenhouse gases from power generation during the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy. This position will even increase in the future. Accordingly, the price of natural gas has steadily increased during the last years. The consumption and demand continues to grow worldwide. In addition to the immediate impact of the price, the number of parameters that determine the price of natural gas are a considerable business risk for businesses and industries that depend on natural gas. For the above reasons a substitution of natural gas becomes more and more interesting for companies with high energy consumption. The syngas can directly replace fossil fuels, and thus reduce the dependencies and risks for the consumers. Furthermore, it can be offered significantly cheaper than natural gas.
High environmental performance
The syngas plant has a higher environmental performance than competing plants. With renewable feedstock the syngas plant can substituted fossil fuels. As a result, a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is achieved. With waste material feedstock the syngas plant achieves a higher energy recovery than competing plants, because of the higher efficiency. Therefore again the usage of primary fossil energy can be reduced. An innovative integration into material and energy streams allows to run the plant carbon negative. Regional solutions reduce the transport of feedstock and thus achieve a reduction of environmental impacts. Biomass, but especially waste materials contain contaminations. The integrated gas cleaning process can efficiently remove these substances from the product gas. Thus, the emission of these substances is significantly reduced.
